A History

Time Frame Action
1988 National Network formed. Networker hired by C.M.H.A. (Canadian Mental Health Association)
June 1988 First provincial Network formed in British Columbia
1988-1992 Governemnt-funded initiatives began in several provinces.
1989 The Premier's Council on the Status of Persons with Disabilities released a document towards a new vision of abililites in Alberta. "Consumers and their families must have input into policies that affect the status of persons with disabilities".
1989-1990 The Alberta Consumer Network was developed and funded by C.M.H.A. Alberta Division
1990-1994 The Alberta Network was funded by Alberta Health (half-time coordinator).
1995 Alberta Health funding increased to allow for a full-time coordinator.
1999 Name changed to Alberta Mental Health Self Help Network
